Sustainable Farming

The ranch is certified as a California Certified Sustainable Vineyard. The program is sponsored by 1)  the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance (CSWA), 2) the Wine Institute and 3) the California Association of Winegrape Growers. The goal is to promote sustainable practices from grapes to glass.

Our Grapes

When the Hambrecht family purchased the property in the late 1970's, about half of the now existing vineyards were planted in 1973 and 1974.  The rest of the ranch was developed by the family in 1983 and 1984 and extensive re-planting began in 2006.

The Ranch

Wine Creek Ranch is located about 5 miles northwest of Healdsburg, California, nestled in the hilltops about 1000 ft above sea level, near the top of Bradford Mountain. The property is in the Dry Creek Valley American Viticultural Area. The over 200-acre property includes 70 acres planted mostly with Zinfandel and Syrah, but also smaller blocks of Petite Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, and Viognier grapes. The grape growing business is known as Grist Vineyards.

Woody Hambrecht

General Manager

'We are probably in the top 1-3% of sustainable vineyards in the county.  I can comfortably make this claim for a couple reasons - we're organic, we farm holistically, use minimal water, are using our own material for replanting, and we have thriving natural habitat, among other things.” Woody Hambrecht

Woody Hambrecht has been the general manager of Grist since 2010.  In that role he focused on sales, farming strategies and administration.
